Go to law school or something. You’re not cut out for a phd in math if you’re getting thrashed by the undergrad curriculum.

OP, if you’ve demonstrated improvement or willpower through other means (getting internships, making close relationships with teachers, good score on the GRE), then what are you worried about? you should take some credit for the fact that you go to princeton..i really think it does mean a lot. some people out there might be super smart, but it’s the people who are determined and less ’smart’ who finish last

I was inthe same boat as an Applied Math major, but I knew I didn’t want to go to math grad school (it only gets harder). Instead, I graduated (3.008 major, 2.9 overall), got some work experience, and went back for an MBA with an IT concentration to round out the math rigor (it can indimidate some employers). I now work with databases and love it – the math you don’t understand now seems to sink in weeks after the final exam, and the logic and abstractions you have learned will put you ahead of many of your coworkers (unless you work in a think-tank/RD).

sorry I mean the 5th. I have a very low gpa…I’ve gotten no A’s…mostly B’s and some unfortunate C’s. You shouldn’t judge by the way I quickly write on pfml (@ anon). I’m wondering if I really have a chance.

I wouldn’t be complaining if I was in that 1st to 2nd quintile. I’m in the 3th quintile unfortunately

Maybe events like this will make people realize that Princeton expects too much from it’s students, similar to the lion/gazelle reference made on a Grade Deflation post some time ago. But sadly, I have no advice for you whatsoever. Hope for the best. Tell admisions officers of GD…. hope you’re in the 2nd-1st Quintile. Good luck.
